I prepared this as directed in the slow cooker for our Easter dinner. It was delicious! I was able to keep it warm for those who ate at noon and those who ate at 5pm. The leftovers were divine! It was a budget friendly meat as it was only $1.29 a pound and fed our crowd of 20 adults. TRY IT!

Sure. I love this on the grill, but if you don’t have one, you could saute your meat in a pan, or bake it in the oven and it would still taste great. Maybe pop it under the broiler at the end for a little of that char-grilled flavor!

Followed the oven method. I used a 9 lb ham shank. Mustard and sweet and spicy seasoning blend. Cooked at 300 degrees for 6 hours. Pulled perfectly. I’m now contemplating adapting it to do a Maryland Stuffed Ham.

I followed your exact recipe besides the tobacco sauce. I also cook ground beef in the bacon grease. I don’t use the bacon. I add sugar in mine as well. White sugar is best but can try brown sugar as well.

While active dry and instant yeast are similar, they aren’t the same thing. Instant yeast (like we’re using here) can be added directly to dry ingredients while active dry needs to be proofed first. So use Instant yeast (essentially the same as rapid/fast rise).

Correct. It’s a very small amount and you will drizzle it in VERY slowly, a little at a time. By the time it hits the cream it’s just warm.

This blue pan is a 3.6qt and it’s great. For a family of 6, I would say a 12-14″ diameter pan will serve you best. If you have older teens like I do, a 14″ is a must!
